Diagnostic Procedures
-
Diagnostic thoracentesis:Through a puncture of the chest wall, samples of the accumulated fluid in the pleural cavity are obtained to diagnose diseases of the pleura or lung.
-
Therapeutic thoracentesis:Through the passage of a small diameter drainage catheter is achieved by minimally invasive techniques guided by ultrasound. Position this catheter for the treatment of large pleural effusions that would only be achieved with more invasive and painful techniques.
-
Percutaneous Pleural Biopsy:Using ultrasound guidance and special Tru-cut needles. Samples from the pleura or lung can be obtained for the diagnosis of minimally invasive benign or malignant diseases.

-
Diagnostic videofibrobronchoscopy taken with:
- Bronchial brushing
- Bronchoalveolar lavage
- Bronchial biopsy
- Transbronchial lung biopsy
The airway is examined by using a video bronchoscope and samples are taken from the inside of the bronchial tubes and the lung for the diagnosis of infectious or non-infectious diseases. Also, minimally invasive tumors, both on an outpatient basis and in hospitalized patients or in the intensive care unit.
